Embedding Instructional Strategies to Support Self-Directed Learning in Online Course Design
Wednesday, October 22, 11:15am-12:00pm CDT
Low engagement remains a persistent challenge in online learning, often linked to students’ limited self-directed learning (SDL) skills. This session introduces an evidence-based SDL framework built around three mutually reinforcing processes that strengthen motivation, goal setting, learning strategies, and follow-through.
Attendees will explore instructional strategies that can be embedded into online courses to foster these skills, increasing both engagement and student success.
This session also highlights an innovative SDL Instructional Model and a comprehensive Campus Resource Guide, providing instructional designers with practical tools to support faculty in integrating SDL strategies into their course design.
